Soccer Games - Head It .. Catch It
A great warm up game involving a soccer ball and very little else is ‘head it, catch it’ which can be played with any number of players. All players stand around in a circle with one player in the middle who will throw the soccer ball. The thrower will go round the circle throwing the ball at each player in turn at head height and tell them to either ‘head it’ or ‘catch it’. with me so far? Read on for the catch!
Wembley - a great backyard soccer game
Wembley is a great soccer game to play for around four or more players. You need a bit of space but only one goal so you can conceivably play in a back garden or on the street - jumpers for goalposts and all that!
The basic premise is that you have one goalkeeper who will remain in goal for the tournament(!). The other players will then compete against each other to reach the (Wembley) final which will be the contested by the last two players.
Keepy-uppys
The soccer game that everybody knows which will really help with your soccer skills and techniques is the classic ‘keepy-uppys’ - The object of the game is to keep the ball in the air for as long as possible. Each touch of the ball counts as one ‘keepy-uppy’. You can use your head, your feet, your knees, in fact any part of your body except for your hands and lower arms. This is great fun played solo - you could try and vary it by just using your head, or vary between head-feet-head, or knee-feet-head.. it’s totally up to you - try and beat your record for each combination.
